Chess team ‘A DAN DZO & PGMB’

History

Internet battles

History of the team’s creation starts at the end of 2006 from gaming internet resource ‘Gambler’. It’s when the chess was very popular, not least, due to utmost interesting team tournaments.

In 2007, Alexander Sushev, the Ukrainian chess player, one of the main members of our team has joined it. Main merit of Alexander is not even about permanent performance for the team, but in successful selection work, whose results permitted in first half of 2008 to enter fierce battle with legendary internet team of Igor Berdichevskiy named ‘Krepyshi’. There was a thoughtful decision made on rebranding of the team. We then were called ‘PGMB’.

Baadur Jobava, Sergei Zhigalko, Vladimir Baklan, Alexander Zubov, Dmitriy Andreikin, Aleksander Areshenko, Nikolai Chadyev, Yaroslav Zinchenko, Dmitriy Kononenko, Kirill Bryzgalin, Alexander Kharitonov, Sergei Azarov, Vitaliy Kiselev, Alexander Nosenko and other chess players, night and day fought for the team’s honor with the most powerful comprisal of opponents, which attracted to play such chess players as Dmitriy Yakovenko and Ruslan Ponomorev. As a result we won in a very fascinating end of the championship. To be fair, it’s worth mentioning that this championship became the last value full one on ‘Gambler’. Restructuring of chess tournaments led to massive drain of chess players from the resource. We had to relocate to resource called ‘Chess Planet’ where we started thinking about real tournaments and were able to find a sponsor, i.e. ‘A DAN DZO Standard Group’.

We still play within the new resource, and instead of ‘Krepyshi’, our main opponent is the team ‘Zoo’ headed by Vladimir Mikhailov, Sergei Rublevskiy and Gadir Guseinov.
Full interview with Andrei Maximov, the founder of the team, can be reached in one of the reading CIS chess resources – Crestbook 11.11.2009

Real tournaments

Our team started participation in real tournaments in May 2009 where we qualified for the Ukrainian Championship 2009 and became vice championship of the Ukraine not losing even a single match and gaining equal amount of points of ‘PVK-Kievchess’ team. In decisive match of final tour, we had all chances to gain the victory, but we finally finished it 3-3 in a draw and have let the first place on additional indicators.

In October 2009, we performed in the European Club between Macedonian clubs. Despite final 12 place, we only lost one match to the hosts of the tournament, to ‘Alkaloid’ team and played 2 matches in a draw with then existing Champions of Europe, ‘Ural’ team and Russian champions, i.e. ‘Tomsk’ team. In case of confident victory in last tour over ceding in the class “Lasta’ from Zagreb, we did have a chance to appear even in 5 top strongest teams of Europe. Alas, slighting draw and 12 place.

Atmosphere

I’m confident that many chess players of our team would support that the major ‘magnet’ permitting us to gather leading grand masters of the world is the atmosphere. We are great friends with the guys, we follow their performance, and based on possibility assist them by all means, i.e. spiritually and materially, and we cheer them with holidays and successes. Special treatment from administration was our New Year journey to the Ukraine and Belarus.

There is a need to highlight gathering of the team in Moscow, which was conducted jointly with management of ‘A DAN DZO Standard Group’ company just before the trip to the European Club Cup in Macedonia.

In order to lift team spirits up and prepare for the forthcoming trip to the European Club Cup, participants headed by the captain and management of ‘A DAN DZO Standard Group’ gathered in informal environment. Andrei Maximov tells about the event.

‘It was Friday. That day we felt special cheer up as tonight we were about to meet our players, who have recently completed so called ‘small approach’ over the Ukrainian championship. In addition to that, we wanted to avoid possible failures with arrival of players, even organization, accommodation and etc. Let’s not go to details of current day and shortly describe main events which ended up in a meeting at a nice restaurant organized by ‘A DAN DZO Standard Group’.

So, the arrival order of participants was the following: first, as it suits to the premier board of the team, arrived Sergei Azarov coming by train from Minsk. Then, the first part of the Ukrainian landing arrived from Dnepropetrovsk, comprising of Dmitriy Kononenko, Alexander Zubarev and Yaroslav Zinchenko. Right after, Alexander Zubov and Alexander Sushev arrived by train from Kiev. Catching the ball before the bound, I would like to mention, that in additional to administrative activity, Alexander Sushev will perform an important function of an interpreter. Little later, Uriy Kuzubov, a new team player arrived from the victorious tournament in Texas, and then, with delay due to rainy weather and Friday traffic, Uriy Drozdovskiy arrived from Odessa.

The most important part of planned event was a meeting of the team players with Alexander Portnov, the General Director of ‘A DAN DZO Standard Group’ and Dmitriy Andreyev, the guest of honor, the Executing Director on Perspective Projects of LLC ‘Kazakhmys Corporation’.

The event started at 6.40pm from informal chat and expecting of late participants. And here we go! Everyone’s here! Formal part of the event has started!

There were many warm words said to the management of the company and the players, as well as administration of ‘A DAN DZO & PGMB’, to Andrei Maksimov, Sergei Korpunkov and Alexander Sushev. The night wasn’t young anymore. Dmitriy Andreev has perfectly played a role of chess dilettante, by asking the guys questions, like ‘And so, why Kasparov has won over Karpov?’ or ‘Who is ready for over playing Dmitriy Andreikin in the tournament’?

Well, at first, guys felt reserved,

but then, the atmosphere of event appeared to be more like home-felt and trustworthy.

To be fair, presence of our inspiring ladies, Nadezhda and Svetlana, deserves a special gratitude. Taking an opportunity, I would like to thank Nadezhda Maksimova for her kind assistance in organizing of our trip.

An important and very pleasant event was the presentation of team players who talked briefly about their achievements, received brand corporate t-shirts from the administration and were granted with intensive applauds from other participants.

Alexander Portnov and Dmitriy Andreev received their t-shirts as well.

The time has flown quickly. Tomorrow, we get up early and hit the road to the Macedonian city Okhrid. It’s time to go to the hotel, but before we do that we take a group photo for the memories

Moscow metro by night, comparing to Friday evening road traffic, just simply strengthened positive impressions from the event.
